How to scan your NRIC, front and back
pages, and stitch these two pages into one combined image (JPG) or pdf file
format?
This method can produce your final NRIC
file size to around 40KB (at 100dpi resolution) or 80KB (at 150dpi resolution).
Advantages: Reduce the final file size and also keep
the front and back of the NRIC in one page of document. (NOTE: JPG is a image
file format and PDF file is a file format that can be read by Adobe Acrobat
Reader. The meaning of dpi stands for dots per inch. So 100dpi stands
for within 1-inch, there are 100dots from the image you scanned. Higher dpi
will give clearer image quality but the file size also increased.)
Step 1.
First create a folder to store your scan image. Run the Presto! ImageFolio4 by double clicking the icon as shown on your Windows Desk Top.

Step
2.
Open File menu and choose the Stitch command as shown below.

Step
3.

Choose Main Image and use your mouse cursor to click on the Scan button as shown in the red oval marking picture above.
Step
4.
You will see the Smart TWAIN
setting window open up as shown below:

If you prefer your scanned NRIC to be in black and white choose this setting, B/W Photo. To reduce file size, you can set the dpi to 150 (or 100). Select dpi to be 100 will give a smaller image file size. When done, press theScanbutton as shown by the arrow in the above picture to start the scanning of the front size side of the NRIC. After the front side of the NRIC is scanned, click on the EXIT on the above picture to close the Smart TWAIN window.
Step
5.

When this is done, click on the Rest Image tag and prepare to scan the back of the NRIC.
Step
6.

Press Scan as shown above when you are in the Rest Image tag selection.
Step
7.
You will see the same setting as shown below; repeat the same step as in Step 4 to complete the other side of the NRIC scan.

After the back of the NRIC is scanned, click on the EXIT on the above picture to close the Smart TWAIN window. Choose Stitch Image tag and you will see the screen as shown below. Select the Bottom button and slide the Overlap Range for Auto Stitch towards the left side as show below:

Finally, choose Manual and the select Stitch as shown above.
Step
8.

The stitch image will have a moving box as shown above. By moving the mouse cursor, the moving box will move. Slide the box towards the left side and click on the left mouse button to confirm the stitch location. The moving box image should match and overlap the same image below the moving box.
Step
9.
Once done, the combined front and back of the NRIC will look like this:

(in this example, the information on the NRIC is covered up)
Step
10.
Now you can use the Save As command in the File menu to save this image into JPG file format in the folder you preferred.

Step
11.
If you prefer to have this
combined image of the NRIC in pdf file format (so that Adobe Arcobat
Reader can read this file), just open up Presto! PageManager 7 (double click the icon on
your Desk Top) and select this file and save as pdf will convert it from jpeg
to pdf file format. An example is given below:
When PageManager is open, select the folder which stored your NRIC image file. In this example, the folder name is called M12PLUS test and the stitched image file (jpeg) is called 150dpi. So select the image file and then click on the Save as pdf icon to convert the image file (JPG) to pdf.

Once the Save as pdf icon (see marking B on the above picture) is clicked, the following screen will prompt you to type in the file name and you can save this pdf file to your own client folder if you wish. In this case, you can name the pdf file by using your clients name.

This completes the task of putting the front and back of the NRIC into a single page and convert it to a pdf file format.
Some tests results for your reference:
For
scanning NRIC:
If you are using scan resolution of 100dpi, your NRIC JPG image file size (after stitched) will be around 40KB. After converting to pdf file, the file size is around 37KB.
If you are using scan resolution of 150dpi, your NRIC JPG image file size (after stitched) will be around 80KB. After converting to pdf file, the file size is around 77KB.
How to scan your A4 document, in
small file size in image JPG format?
Due to some companies file server
file size restriction, the documents you are going to scan needs to reduce
their file size. Hence we need to scan them in lower resolution of dpi.
Step 1.
Place your mouse cursor on top of the DigiScan icon at the Windows Tool Bar as shown below:

Double click the DigiScan icon to open up the menu as shown below and select Properties.

Step 2.
You will see the screen as show below:

Choose the SCAN tag and in the Purpose field, select Save to file. In the Browse command, select your folder to save your image file. Select A4 size for your document scan. In the Mode setting, choose Grayscale and its resolution to 100. When done, click on Close to complete the setting.
Step 3.
Place your document, according to your scanner user instruction guide, into the scanner and press the Scan button on the scanner itself. The document will then enter into the scanner slot. When finished, the following screen will appear:

If you have some more documents to scan, place the document into the scanner slot and this time you do not need to press the Scan button. The document will enter into the scanner slot by itself.
If you do not have any more document to scan, click on the Finish to complete the scan.
Step
4.
Go into your folder and look at the scan images of your documents. The scan images documents are all named with file names starting like image001, image002. You can also check the file size of each of these scan document by moving the mouse cursor over the file and the file size will high light on the screen.
Step 5.
In order to convert all the document image files and may be the NRIC file together into a single pdf file, open up the PageManager program by double click the program icon on the Windows Desk Top as show below:

In our example, we have stored our image files in a folder called M12Plus test. So click on this folder as shown in the PageManager folder listing:

Select the NRIC image and the document images (by pressing the <CTRL> on your keyboard and the left mouse button). Next, click on the Save as PDF command to convert the select image files into a single pdf file. The program will prompt you to enter the file name next. You may wish to use your client name as the file name for easy reference.
This completes the file generation for a NRIC and multi-page document into a single pdf file for electronic file submission.
Some
scanned results:

For scanning a typical A4 size document in 150dpi, the JPG file is around 300KB. After converting to pdf file, the file size is around 300KB.
