Plustek SmartOffice PS286 Button Configuration
Aim: To give some examples on the button configurations for the SmartOffice PS286.
After the software has been installed in your computer, you will see the SmartOffice icon at the Tool bar as shown below:

Select Button Configuration to entry the settings.
1).
Button 1 Configuration
To scan document to Microsoft Word format so that you could edit the document.

Choose OCR Utility and at the Configure…. Choose Rich Text Format (*.rtf) as shown below:
Tick Prompt for file saving name and folder so that you can direct the file to the location you wish to store. If your document has double printed side, you will select ADF (Duplex) at the Scan Type.

Botton 2 Configuration
To scan a document into Searchable pdf file format, please refer to the settings below:

At the OCR Application, Configure… please select Portable Document Format (*.pdf).
Here if you have blank pages, you can tick “Remove Blank Pages” and this will not save blank pages in your final document. The sensitivity of the blank page can be set from Low to High according to your requirement.

Button 3 Configuration
To scan a document to Microsoft Excel format
The setting is very similar to Button 1 except you choose MS Excel document (*.xls).

Button 4 Configuration
To scan a stack of color photos to image files (jpeg) in a folder.
At the Button Template, choose File Utility This setting below is showing the scan images will be stored at the
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\. You can change this path to the folder you wish by clicking the box on the right side of this setting.
Since you are scanning the photos in color, choose JPEG at the Color under the File Format section. As most photos are only Front side, you choose ADF (Front). The resolution will be depending on your needs. Higher resolution will give a better scan image but the file size will also increase and scan speed will be slower.

Button 5 Configuration:
To scan a color document (front side only) to a non-searchable pdf file format.
Choose File Utility under the Button Template. As in previous setting in Button 4, you can also choose where you wish to store your pdf file to the folder you wish.
Next at the File Format, choose PDF as shown. Make sure at the Scan Mode, you have also chosen “Color”.

At the File Format Section, click the Configure…. to enter the following settings:

Click on the Color section – Generate one PDF File for all pages. This will place all the scan pages into one document. Click OK and complete the setup and button 5 is ready for non-searchable color pdf file scanning.
6).
Button 6 Configuration
To scan a document to non-searchable pdf file format but in gray scale.

This is similar to Button 5 setting but this time at the File Format, you need to choose PDF in the Grayscale area. And at the Configue… please choose “Generate one PDF file for all pages.

Button 7 Configuration
To scan a A3 size color catalog into a color pdf file (also in A3 size).

Please choose Page Size setting to “Automatic Size” and in Scan Type, tick on Merge Pages and Horizontally.
This method only allows you to scan a A3 page to a file. Therefore if you have multiple A3 pages in your catalog, You need to scan the A3 pages into different pdf files and use the program called PageManager to merge the individual A3 pages into one pdf file.
PageManager is one of the bundled software. You can see this icon on your computer desk top. Run this program, select the pdf files you need to merge and save to pdf file.

Enter C drive, locate Program File folder and inside please find Plustek folder.
Inside you will find a folder called Smartoffice PS286. Open this folder and run the Scanner pdf file
2). ABBYY FineReader
Enter C drive, locate Program File folder and inside please find Plustek folder.
Go into SOFTWARE folder and find FineReader 6.0 Sprint. You will find a file name called Sprint0, please double click this file and read the user guide
3). Presto! PageManager 7
Enter C drive, locate Program File folder and inside please find Plustek folder.
Go into SOFTWARE folder and find PAGEMANAGER 7. Locate WebHelp folder and run index file.
4). Presto! ImageFolio
Enter C drive, locate Program File folder and inside please find Plustek folder.
Go into SOFTWARE folder and find ImgFolio and run the manual pdf file.
5). Business Card Software
